Small-town workers face felony embezzlement charges | Free News

A fast-food manager and a convenience store clerk are facing charges of embezzlement in separate cases in local small towns.

Tiffany Wynn, 43, was working as a manager at the Subway in Sandersville when a district manager found evidence of fraud and passed on his findings to the Sandersville Police Department, Sgt. Elizabeth Walley said.

“We received a paper trail going back to last year, and the numbers just didn’t add up,” Walley said.

That led to the arrest of Wynn, who turned herself in then made her initial appearance before Judge Sonny Saul in Sandersville Municipal Court. He set her bond at $10,000, which she posted and was released from the Jones County Adult Detention Center.

Wynn was manager at the Subway for a couple of years, Walley said, and it’s believed investigators will be able to prove that she took more than $2,000 and possibly in excess of $10,000.

“Sandersville is a small town, so you don’t expect anything like that, but it can happen here,” Walley said. “I’m just glad they were vigilant and we were able to handle it.”

The investigative file will be handed in to the Jones County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution of the felony, Walley said.

In a separate case in Ellisville, also this week, 60-year-old Susan Fletcher was charged with embezzling money from the Clark’s convenience store she worked at. A manager at the store provided video surveillance along with voided receipts and other evidence that showed her getting cash for use to buy lottery tickets, Investigator Kyle Pickett of the Ellisville Police Department said. The total taken amounts to more than $1,000, so it is a felony, Pickett said.

Fletcher was arrested on Thursday evening and spent the night in jail then was released after posting $1,000 bond on Friday morning after her initial appearance in Ellisville Municipal Court.
