Porky's star Tony Ganios suddenly dies as he tragically suffers heart attack after surgery

Tony Ganios, well known for his role in the 1981 movie Porky’s has sadly passed away at the age of 64.

The Hollywood actor passed away on Sunday, his fiancee confirmed, he was taken into hospital after suffering a spine infection. He is said to have undergone treatment, but sadly had a fatal heart attack the next day, TMZ reports.

Tony’s partner Amanda told the publication her husband was on the way to dialysis treatment on Sunday when he suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his sudden death.

The death of her fiance came ‘unexpectedly,’ and they were reportedly planning their wedding after being a couple for nine years.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, she shared a heartfelt tribute, which read: “The last words we said to each other were “I love you.” Love is an understatement. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul and my best friend. #I love you #tonyganios.”

Replying to a fan sending their well wishes, Amanda then said she was ‘crushed’.

She added: “It was so fast. He hadn’t felt well and hid it from me for days. When he finally told me, and was taken to the hospital, his spinal cord was severely infected. They did surgery, next morning, his heart stopped.

“I’m crushed.”

A look back at the star’s career

Ganios made his film debut in the 1963 film The Wanderer, playing Perry, an Italian-American teenager. He then starred in the 1981 film Porky’s, as Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello, whom he became best known for.

His career went from strength to strength, and in 1990, starred in Die Hard 2, alongside Bruce Willis.

The star sadly passed away two weeks before the big Porky’s reunion at Cult Classics Weekend in Bastrop TX, in which he was due to attend.

Fans took to Twitter to send Amanda their well wishes, as one wrote: “Amanda, my family is at a loss for words. We are eternally grateful for Tony and our heart breaks for you. I was showing photos to my coworkers and telling them about him TODAY before I saw the news.”

“I’m so sorry for your loss. It was such a pleasure to ‘meat’ Tony and let him know how much I loved his acting. My condolences are with you,” said another.
